Wisconsin Badgers Fire Head Men’s Hockey Coach Tony Granato

To no surprise, University of Wisconsin Athletic Director Chris McIntosh makes it official by firing head men’s hockey coach Tony Granato today.

Here’s the official statement:

UW went 105-129-16 (.452) overall, 65-87-12 (.433) in Big Ten play, and 0-1 in the NCAA Tournament with a Big Ten title in Granato’s seven seasons.

I was a fan of the Granato hire back in 2016, the fact that he didn’t take the Wisconsin program to the top remains totally perplexing to me.

He continued to produce NHL players and recruited very well, but the wins just didn’t come.

Keep an eye on Scott Sandelin from Minnesota-Duluth as a possible replacement candidate.
