I’m not really a big traveler anymore, I much prefer staying local & having a “staycation” over traveling for a vacation.
However, one of my good buddies of 20+ years was getting married in Hudson, Ohio on Saturday, May 20th, & as much as I didn’t want to travel, I couldn’t miss this. We’ve been basketball teammates & that brotherhood was bonded on the basketball court & our mutual love for the Green Bay Packers kept us close.
I made the approximate seven & a half hour drive to Kent, Ohio to the Kent State hotel, where practically everyone was staying. The hotel is pretty neat & it’s within walking distance to so many restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc. which made it super convenient. The fact that it’s a 10-minute walk to the Kent State campus made it more enjoyable for me since I love checking out college football & basketball stadiums when I do travel.
After arrival Friday night I had to quickly change & make the short walk to the rehearsal dinner, where we had Indian food which was pretty good!
I got to meet a lot of people that I had never met before, which was fun. Side note: for those of you that don’t know me, it takes a lot out of me when I’m in large crowds since I’m very much a loner/introvert/antisocial. But this was worth it.

Saturday, May 20th, 2023, I woke up early & had some breakfast in the hotel lobby & quickly left for Canton, Ohio to go to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
It’s the first time I’ve been to Ohio, so the fact that I was only a half hour drive from the Hall of Fame, there was no way I was NOT going to make it there.
Being a Packers fan with all of the history around the franchise, it was very fun to go there. Insert the song Bang On The Drum All Day by Todd Rundgren.
For those of you that didn’t know, Brett Favre & Reggie White are my two most favorite NFL players of all-time, so it was exciting to see their sculpture/statue.

Another highly notable one is Vince Lombardi.

I ended up spending approximately three & a half to four hours inside the Hall of Fame. I wanted to take my time & was definitely not in a rush.
I took probably 120 pictures from inside the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
I would 100% recommend making the trip if you can!
The wedding was Saturday afternoon & it was an awesome wedding!
Sunday morning, May 21st, I had some extra time before needing to make the drive back home, so I decided to check out Dix Stadium, home of the Kent State Golden Flashes football program.
Here’s a picture from the parking lot & short video from inside the stadium:

Obviously from the video, I was able to get inside the stadium. I thought it was a pretty cool little stadium! There wasn’t anything “special” about it, but I liked it.
On the way home I stopped in South Bend, Indiana to try & check out Notre Dame Stadium, but unfortunately it was closed.
This was the only picture I was able to get:

Thanks to Maps for making me park on the other side of campus, I was able to get a tour of the campus.
The campus itself is nice, but I’ll admit, I was a little underwhelmed because I was anticipating it being a lot better. To be clear, I still thought the campus was nice.
It is on my bucket list to go to a football game at Notre Dame.
Overall, it was a very successful trip! I spent roughly 17 hours round trip driving & only spent approximately 40 hours in Ohio, but it was a very enjoyable 40 hours!
Now I need a staycation & a break from people to try to recharge my battery.
