Winning ugly doesn’t matter. The Green Bay Packers (7-3) blocked a field goal as time expired to beat the Chicago Bears (4-6) at Soldier Field, 20-19. It’s the 11th straight win over the Bears.
In 1999, the Bears beat the Packers on a blocked field goal by Bryan Robinson. Karl Brooks returned the favor 25 years later. Brooks produced the game-winning block on the field goal attempt. He got just the tip, though, which is sometimes all that matters….To think that some think just the tip isn’t enough….
I like Matt LaFleur a lot as the head coach, but today might have been the worst game he’s coached in his tenure. There’s a lot that went into feeling like this from conservative play calling in the red area & it made zero sense to go for it on 4th-&-goal from the Chicago 6-yard line with 11:29 remaining in a 19-14 game. You’re on the road….take the points!!!
I like the way Christian Watson played today. Made a couple tough catches, one was what set up the Packers for the go ahead score late in the game.
The defensive unit struggled a bit with no takeaways. The bothersome part was the lack of pressures against a historically bad offensive line. Also felt like Chicago was perfect on third down conversions (9-for-16 after a 8-for-13 start). Ugly game from that unit.
This team has a lot to clean up, but they still own the Bears.
The eye test doesn’t matter on November 17th. At this point a year ago, the Packers were 4-6 & were two wins away from the Super Bowl. At 7-3 this year, we haven’t really seen the best ball from Green Bay yet.
