Santa Clara University has their next head women’s basketball coach, as SCU athletic director Heather Owen made the announcement on Monday that Loree Payne has been hired to fill the vacancy.

Payne becomes the 12th head coach in program history and has a career record of 266-174 (.605) between her stints at Northern Arizona (eight seasons) and the University of Puget Sound (seven seasons). She was named the Big Sky coach of the year after leading Northern Arizona to the regular season title in the 2022-23 season.
Payne leaves Flagstaff as the winningest coach in NAU program history with a 136-116 (.540) overall record and 88-62 (.587) record in Big Sky Conference play. Prior to her time at NAU, she went 130-58 (.692) at Puget Sound and was twice named the Northwest Conference (NWC) coach of the year.
