Some Thoughts After Grief Messages

As I get this column started, I’d like to remind you all of my Patreon community. That community is a big part of my website & my other social media accounts (YouTube, Twitch, etc.). If you’d like to become a member, you can go to https://www.patreon.com/nickobot.

I’m a little sad today, but I hope I’m not tomorrow.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve gotten messages asking for advice from people new to the grief journey.

Some have experienced a similar loss that I had with my soul dog, others have been with family, friends, significant others, etc., and the bad news is it’s not an easy road.

In my situation what I’ve experienced is that the first several months are a blur. At this point just focus on trying to eat and sleep.

The shock will stick with people for different amounts of time I’m sure, but it was probably about six months before I could start to comprehend my new lot in life.

There’s a full year of “firsts” without someone that you need to brace for, birthday, holidays, anniversaries. Things like Christmas music will set you off, so stay out of stores and malls during that season.

What I can say for sure is that it’s not a steady road back to a normal life, that ship has sailed.

There are ups and downs, a roller coaster ride you don’t want to be on, make good use of your good days, and take care of yourself on the bad ones.

You genuinely don’t know what the next day is going to be like. You sometimes get a brief moment of thinking someone is still there before you fully wake up.

If you’re going through hell, keep going.

P.S. – I haven’t given up on this website, Patreon, YouTube & Twitch, and I won’t. I appreciate all of your support!
