After 714 days and 21 consecutive losses later, the Kent State Golden Flashes (1-0) get the Mark Carney era underway with a 21-17 win over the Merrimack Warriors from Dix Stadium.

Da’Realyst Clark returned a 100-yard kickoff for a touchdown to life the Golden Flashes past Marrimack, ending a 21-game losing streak in Coach Mark Carney’s head coaching debut.
I thought Kent State played pretty well while taking a 14-3 lead, but then they sputtered a bit. Marrimack scored on three of four possessions, taking a 17-14 lead on a 45-yard field goal from Carlton Thai with 5:40 left to play in the fourth quarter, which a turnover helped aid that drive.
But then we had the dramatic kick return for a touchdown as Kent State quickly regained the lead at 21-17.
I’m proud of the squad. I’m happy for Mark Carney – who I think deserves to get the interim tag removed and get the full time head coaching gig. I’m happy for the fans.
