Jason Candle is finalizing a deal to become the next UConn Huskies head football coach after an 11-year run as the Toledo Rockets head coach.
It will be a six-year deal through the 2031 season. He will officially be announced at a press conference on Monday.
Candle is set to replace Jim Mora Jr., who bailed on UConn to take the Colorado State job – a lateral move at best in my opinion. Mora revitalized the UConn program, going 27-23 in four seasons, including three bowl appearances and consecutive nine-win seasons. The program had been to only one bowl game in the previous 11 seasons prior to Mora’s arrival.
Candle finishes his tenure in Toledo as the school’s all-time winningest coach with an 81-44 (.648) overall record, including a 53-25 (.680) record in MAC play and a 3-5 (.375) record in bowl games/postseason.
