Sunday afternoon in Denver was one of the most devastating days not involving a crushing playoff loss that I can remember in Green Bay Packers history.
The Packers (9-4-1) lost 34-26 to the Denver Broncos (12-2) at Mile High, yet losing so much more with multiple devastating injuries to key players to both sides of the ball.
In a matter of minutes, the Packers lost Christian Watson, Zach Tom, Quay Walker (briefly – he did return to the game), Evan Williams and Micah Parsons to injury. It is reported that Parsons has a torn ACL, which obviously would end his season. I’m not a doctor, but I suspect Christian Watson will likely miss time, how much is to be determined.
This is one of the few times where I’ve genuinely felt sick after a game. This game has ruined my mood for the week until Saturday.
Football can be a cruel game sometimes. You could argue that Micah Parsons (definitely) and Tucker Kraft are two of the three most irreplaceable players on this 2025 roster, along with JLove. With Kraft already out with a torn ACL and all signs point to Parsons being out with a torn ACL. With your best defensive tackle (Devonte Wyatt) and most experienced offensive lineman (Elgton Jenkins) out for the year too. Sunday was tough to take for the Packers.
Green Bay is hardly the only team dealing with injuries, even significant injuries. But this is brutal luck for a Super Bowl caliber roster.
I’ve seen a lot of “season over” comments on social media, but the Packers ain’t done.
I’ll have to watch the replay of the game Monday and the All-22 when it comes out to have a better viewpoint of the game.
This game was completely in hand with the Packers in control of the game. But coming out of the locker room for the second half, then the deep shot interception to Christian Watson (the play he went down) and the game completely changed at that moment. It felt like everything was working against the Green and Gold from there on out.
People also need to dial it back on the Jordan Love hate. I’ve seen plenty of comments saying he’s trash, etc. – yes he had a bad QB Rating, but the Packers were completely in this game and in control of this game in large part because Jordan was as good as he was. I get it, the biggest play of the game was his first interception. But he is not trash, that’s ridiculous, that just shows some low level IQ of your view of football.
The Packers defense dropped three or four interceptions in the game. Xavier McKinney had two chances at interceptions on one possession. Gotta catch the ball and pick your offense up. I thought it was a pretty embarrassing performance from the Packers secondary. The secondary, particularly the corner’s, got their asses beat repeatedly.
I do think Josh Jacobs had a heck of a game on a limited snap count.
I thought Darian Kinnard battled and held up pretty well initially when he came in for Zach Tom, but it go pretty rough for the offensive line as a unit, particularly late in the game.
It’s going to pretty much be “next man up” mentality from here on out for the Packers. Let’s hope the likes of Luke Van Ness and Matthew Golden step up.
There’s just some of my thoughts without rewatching the game and/or seeing the All-22.
There’s a lot of season left. The Packers are still in a great position. It all starts with focusing on the Chicago Bears on Saturday night from Soldier Field.
