The Green Bay Packers (9-5-1) completed a near identical collapse of the 2014 NFC Championship game tonight in Chicago in a 22-16 defeat in overtime.
Absolute gut wrenching loss. But there’s more ball to be played this season.
Some quick reactions to the game:
- Great defensive game plan by Jeff Hafley
- Outstanding play by Malik Willis
- One terrible play by Romeo Doubs
- Incredibly damaging loss
Like I said earlier, near identical loss as the 2014 NFC Championship game. Double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, choke it away in the final moments, then allow a walk-off deep touchdown pass in overtime. Complete meltdown.
As Matt Schneidman tweeted out:
“Warren Brinson’s facemask penalty.
Romeo Doubs botching the onside.
Blown coverage on the regulation TD. Botched fourth-down snap in OT.
Just a comedy of errors for the Packers, who now might have to cling to the No. 7 seed.”
For those of you who want to blame Rich Bisaccia for the loss – he can’t catch the f’kn ball for his players. I mean this in the most respectful way possible…stop being ignorant. Romeo Doubs was in perfect position to recover the onside kick.
I thought the Packers played a pretty good ball game until the final few minutes of regulation. Considering everything surrounding the game with all of the injuries, it was one of the better games Matt LaFleur has put together.
The red zone absolutely killed the Packers tonight, though, and has killed them recently.
Malik Willis took full responsibility for the botched snap in overtime. He said he sped up the snap count as the play clock was running down and said he should have let Sean Rhyan know in the huddle he’d do that. “That play, ultimately, decided the game.”
It was a brutal night for Keisean Nixon tonight on the defensive side.
Tonight will be remembered for Nixon and Doubs, which is unfortunate, because there was some good performances tonight. But the Packers pissed this game away and have no one to blame but themselves.
I’m mad about how happy the Bears fans are. They did not deserve to win that game. But good game, I guess, on them winning their Super Bowl.
I feel like I’m in an abusive relationship with the Green Bay Packers, and one that I am not leaving. I still love this team.
