Massive news for the University of Wisconsin….according to multiple reports, Athletic Director Chris McIntosh is stepping down from his position to take a role with the Big Ten Conference.
An official announcement is expected to come on Monday.
For those of you that know me ….. I am extremely excited about this! However, my concern is the next person wrecking the good parts that McIntosh was smart enough to not touch.
I’m guessing that we won’t be getting an AD hire until we hire a new chancellor.
But at least Jennifer Mnookin is gone and Chris McIntosh is presumably gone assuming these reports are accurate. Two of the biggest problems.
Now the world gets to see what stupid shit he does for the conference as a whole – stuff we’ve experienced during his mostly disastrous tenure as UW AD!
I am really grateful for all that Barry Alvarez has done for not just Badgers football, but the entire University of Wisconsin. My hope is he keeps his input to a minimum with this next hire.
My next thought on the new AD:
What an insanely difficult job right now. Not only is there the usual administrative responsibilities, but the new AD will also need to be able to manage the budget within the NIL landscape as well as be a world class fundraiser. That requires some skill set.
I am also curious who exactly is going to handle the hiring given the uncertainty surrounding UW hierarchy?
