This will be a relatively quick blog here. The Milwaukee Bucks held their Media Day on Monday and the past week I’ve been in “basketball mode.”
For those of you that live under a rock, Giannis Antetokounmpo is in South Beach and was traded to the Miami Heat. In one sense it is unfortunate because Giannis is certainly a top two (with Kareem) – if not number one – best player to ever play for the Milwaukee Bucks, so it would have been cool to see him play his entire career in Milwaukee. But the relationship had ran its course and just became very toxic at the end – and I do believe Glenn Rivers played a role in it since everything changed with the franchise once he took over in January 2024 – so a change was needed. I had mixed feelings about it initially, but after thinking about it these past few months, it was certainly in Milwaukee’s best interest to move on from Giannis and get the best package possible in return.
The Bucks have an open practice at Fiserv Forum on Saturday, October 3, which is going to be important because we’ll get somewhat of an idea of what kind of combinations and rotations we could see. Then we have the preseason opener on Monday, October 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves to get the Taylor Jenkins era officially underway.
I’m actually very excited to watch the Bucks this season. It’s certainly a breath of fresh air from these past few seasons, especially considering we have zero expectations entering the season for a change. I think it’s going to be a fun and exciting young team to watch.
The Bucks currently are at 17 players on the roster, so they have some decisions to make between now and the start of the regular season to get it down to 15.
One of the most basic questions is what will the starting lineup be, which could give an idea of how Jenkins wants to play. If I had to guess on who the starting five will be, I’d go with: Ryan Rollins, Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kyle Kuzma and Myles Turner. Only ones I feel “confident” about starting are Herro and Turner. But time will tell, there’s no intel, they just started practice on Tuesday.
The over/under win total for the 2026-27 Milwaukee Bucks I’ve seen as low as 24.5 wins and as high as 26.5 wins. I think this team will be a lot better than people think. I’m not predicting an NBA Championship from this team, but my prediction is 33 wins. I feel fairly confident that this team will get 30 to 35 wins, so I’m putting my prediction in the middle of that.
I think Taylor Jenkins was a huge hire for the Bucks this offseason, especially given what the roster is like now. I feel it’s a deep team, but it’s a pretty young and inexperienced team. I think Jenkins does a good job with the development of players, which will be huge going forward.
I’ll be blogging more about the Bucks here soon. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the ride, Bucks fans!
