Milwaukee Bucks Have Parted Ways With Mike Budenholzer

It was an already big offseason for the Milwaukee Bucks, now it’s an even bigger offseason.

It was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, but the Milwaukee Bucks have relieved Mike Budenholzer of his duties as head coach of the franchise. This comes after an abrupt & shocking exit in the First Round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

General Manager Jon Horst & Team President Peter Feigin wrote a statement:

Milwaukee hired Budenholzer prior to the 2018-19 season. In “Coach Bud’s” five seasons as the head coach, the franchise went 271-120 (.693) in the regular season & 39-26 (.600) in the playoffs under Budenholzer’s leadership.

The highlight of the Budenholzer era was when the Milwaukee Bucks won the 2021 NBA Title, when they took down the Phoenix Suns in six games to win the franchise’s first championship since 1971.

Prior to Budenholzer being hired in Milwaukee, he was the Atlanta Hawks head coach from 2013-2018 where he guided the Hawks to a 213-197 (.520) regular season record & 17-22 (.436) postseason record. Prior to that, he was a longtime assistant coach in San Antonio under Gregg Popovich.

I think Mike Budenholzer is a great regular season coach, but he has struggled in the playoffs both in Atlanta & Milwaukee.

I’ll forever be grateful for the 2021 NBA Championship. With that being said, it was time & the right call.

I’m excited for what change could bring.

Regardless, thank you Bud.
