It’s official. Kent State University has removed the interim tag on Mark Carney and has promoted him to the full-time head coach.
It’s a well deserved move. Carney has done a phenomenal job with a program that had an over/under win total of 1.5 games entering the season and that went 1-23 in the previous two years under former head coach Kenni Burnes.
Carney has led the Golden Flashes to a 3-5 overall record and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play.
I’m really excited to see what he does going forward. It’s been an exciting brand of football this season. The Golden Flashes have their guy now. A new hope and energy.
From day one, Coach Carney called it a seven month interview and he aced it.
What he has done in such a short time under difficult circumstances to turn the program around has been remarkable.
There is a legitimate chance that Kent State can make it to 6-6 and be bowl eligible.
“Since taking over as interim head coach, Mark has instilled belief, togetherness, and a winning culture into our football program,” Kent State University Vice President and Director of Athletics Randale Richmond said. “The way he’s positively impacted this team, this department, this campus, and this community, he’s earned the right to lead this program.”
This is the first of 12 (so far) job vacancies to be filled in FBS.
