The Giannis Antetokounmpo era is officially over in Milwaukee after 13 years.

The Bucks have traded Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat. In exchange, Milwaukee receives Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jukučionis, two unprotected first round draft picks (2031 and 2033), the number 13 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, a 2030 pick swap, and a 2033 second-round pick.
I’m absolutely sick at this.
The Bucks made it to the postseason in 10 of Antetokounmpo’s 13 seasons with the team, including winning the 2021 NBA Championship – the franchise’s first since 1971.
The ONLY nice thing about this is now there’s no more drama surrounding the team with Shams Charania spreading (ridiculous) trade rumors like he has the past decade with Giannis, which I’m sure he’s (Shams) saying “I told you so!” after being wrong for 10 years.
Milwaukee as a franchise now has the chance to begin a fresh organic rebuild as they look to try and find the right pieces to build a contender once again. Although, I am not sure I have a ton of faith right now since things have been slowly going downhill ever since Jimmy Haslam got a stake in the Milwaukee Bucks.
The two biggest “L” moves the Bucks have made post-championship by far (not even particularly close) was getting rid of Jrue Holiday in the process of trading for Damian Lillard and hiring Doc Rivers mid-season during the 2023-24 NBA season. In my opinion, a culmination of that is what led to the losses piling up of late and ultimately leading to this trade.
Better days are (hopefully) ahead, Bucks nation!
